Swansea BID announced as Principal Partner

We are delighted to announce the first Business Improvement District in Wales, Swansea BID, as our Principal Partner for our upcoming Wild in Art Trail. This spectacular public art event will see castle sculptures placed around Swansea for 10 weeks in summer 2023.

Swansea BID is one of the most exciting initiatives developed by the city centre’s business community. Its establishment in 2006 and its successful ballots in 2011, 2016 and 2021 reflected a shared ambition to create and grow, and a drive to put Swansea city centre on the map. Swansea BID is at the forefront of implementing key ideas, initiatives and investment to make the BID area a better place to shop, visit, study, stay and do business.

Russell Greenslade, Chief Executive of Swansea BID, said he felt there were a huge number of incentives and benefits to getting involved in the project.

He said: “I believe Castles in the Sky will be one of the most fun and ambitious art projects the city has ever seen. It is a fantastic opportunity to bring the city together and connect businesses, artists and residents through the power of creativity and innovation.

The project will leave a long-lasting legacy that will inspire civic pride across generations, delight the whole area and drive Swansea’s feel-good factor. Swansea Bid is thrilled to be the Principal Partner for Castles in the Sky and we hope you can support us.”

For 10 weeks, between July and September 2023, the streets and parks of Swansea will be home to a series of castle sculptures, each one individually designed by a Welsh artist and sponsored by businesses, providing a fun, family-friendly trail of discovery for local people or visitors to explore and enjoy. A series of mini castle sculptures – ‘Little Keep-sakes’ – adopted and painted by schools, will also be displayed as part of the adventure.

Castles in the Sky is a special event that promotes health and wellbeing, brings businesses and communities together and help boost the regional economy across Swansea. Whilst exciting and inspiring people of all ages, the trail will also increase public awareness and raise vital funds for Wales Air Ambulance, enabling the Charity to provide lifesaving critical care across Wales, 24 hours a day.
